Nothing can replace your natural teeth, but Standard Dental Implants come pretty close.  Implants are a great option to replace missing teeth.   A dental implant is a titanium post (like a tooth root) that is surgically placed into the jawbone.   There is no drilling of any teeth.  An implant looks and acts like a normal tooth, fitting securely, so you don’t have to worry when you chew or talk.  Once placed, they cannot get cavities, however, without proper brushing and flossing, your implant can get periodontal or gum disease.  The placing of an implant is done with local anesthesia and is often accomplished within 20-40 minutes.  After the implant is placed most patients have little to no discomfort.

So how do you know if you are a good candidate?

  • You are in good general health.

  • You have a jawbone that can support a dental implant.

  • You don’t use tobacco of any form.

What are the steps of a Standard Dental Implant?

  1. A thorough examination: A CT scan of your jaw will be taken to evaluate the bone and placement.  An impression is taken of your upper and lower teeth.

  2. Placement of the Implant.

  3. The healing process.  The length of the heal time depends on location of the tooth and type of implant being placed.

  4. Attaching the abutment, which then attaches to your final Crown.
