February
is National Children's Dental Health Month
Doctors
and staff go out into local schools and
communities in Price, Iron, Vilas, and Oneida
counties. Fluoride varnish and dental
sealants are placed on children's teeth as a
preventative measure against dental tooth decay.
The
staff of Drs. Liesen and Pinzl do community dental
services 3 times per year. Sealant dates for
Oneida County schools for 2nd and 6th graders are
MHLT February 6 and AVW February 26 and 27.
James Williams Middle School is March 26 and 27.
A
dental sealant is a plastic-like coating that is
painted onto the chewing surfaces of
"flat" areas of the 6 and 12 year
molars. Sealant are nearly 100% effective in
preventing cavities on these surfaces of the
molars and can last up to 10 years. The
combined use of fluoride and dental sealants can
virtually eliminate cavities in school-aged
children. It is important to remember that
dental sealants alone will not prevent tooth
decay. Good brushing, flossing, proper
nutrition, and regular visits to the dentist are
recommended.
Our
dental sealants are safe. The materials we
use for dental sealants, Ultra Seat XT and Triage,
do not contain "Bisphenal - A (the material in
many plastics).
