Fall 2008

Fall is here!  Kids are off to college and back to school...So are we.

On October 9th, Kathie went to the Prentice School with the Seal-A-Smile Program of Price County and placed sealants on 2nd, 3rd, and 6th graders.  Dr. Liesen also placed cavity varnishes on Pre-K and kindergarten students with the Iron County Health Department at Mercer School on October 29th.

We strongly believe in attending continuing education seminars to help deliver the best dental care.

Lori attended a seminar on insurance billing, coding, and electronic claim filing.  She came away with information to help both the dental professional and patient with insurance issues.

Sheri drove to Milwaukee to attend an OSHA seminar.  She then chaired a full staff meeting to let us know how to protect patients as well as ourselves.  We were glad to learn we are in-line with all regulations.

Have a great fall getting prepared for our northwoods winter!

Keep Smiling,

Dr. Christine Liesen, Dr. John J. Pinzl, Woodruff Staff, & Park Falls Staff

P.S.  We are currently running a program until December 31, 2008 at our Park Falls Office.  All new patients receiving a complete exam (with x-rays) and teeth cleaning receive a complimentary TRES WHITE® Whitening System.

Grin & Bear It...For Oral Health

Play Safe!
Just Wear It!

Did you realize that 1/3 of dental injuries are related to sports activities?  Wearing a mouth guard makes sense in any contact sport.  It's important the mouth guard fits well and doesn't impair breathing.  Be on the lookout for signs of wear (tears, holes, loss of shape) as it means decreased effectiveness.

It's About Time
Thank you for Understanding

Your appointment times are reserved specifically for you and our rooms are set up to meet your unique requirements.  We'd like to let you know what a last minute cancellation means to us.  It takes hours to realign our time tables, but more importantly, there is usually insufficient time to schedule other patients who could benefit from the now available appointment.  Plus, un-kept appointments can adversely affect your health, and delaying necessary treatment could jeopardize the ultimate outcome.  Thank you!

Q.  Why do you use composite resins (tooth colored) fillings instead of amalgam (silver) fillings?

A.  Studies show that new resin materials wear better and should last longer.  A bonded composite resin filling actually strengthens the tooth to nearly its original strength.  Because amalgams do not bond to the tooth structure, there is a gap between the filling and the tooth.  This gap provides a pathway for bacteria and acid to get between the tooth and the filling, causing decay.
